Class Cancellation or Alternative Instructors
Emergency Class Cancellation Process
If you need to cancel a class suddenly, you can do so by communicating directly to the students via the class roster, and putting a sign up on the classroom door (or asking someone to do so for you). If you need some help to communicate to the students, you can email the Office of Academic and Student Affairs (OASA) at umsi.registrar@umich.edu and leave a message at 734-763-2285. For urgent support, you can gchat or Slack DM, Sally Bazuin - musselms@umich.edu. OASA can help facilitate a sign being put up on the classroom door, and the UMSI Registrar team can email the class roster on your behalf.
Unplanned Absences (e.g., Faculty Illness or Personal Emergency)
Everyone gets sick or has an unexpected emergency at times. We have now instituted a process by which all faculty have designated an alternative instructor for their classes. If something unexpected comes up, you should go to your first alternate. If you are too sick or otherwise unable to activate the alternate list, you can email the Office of Academic and Student Affairs (OASA) at umsi.registrar@umich.edu and leave a message at 734-763-2285.
