IT Support
IT Support
The UMSI IT team works with different IT groups throughout the University to make sure that you get the computing support that you need to be productive in your work. We're here to help. We're your front door to computing support, and you can request help, ask a question, or set up a time for someone to stop by to consult with you about a technology-related topic by submitting a ticket at:
Desktop, Laptop, and Classroom Support
Desktop, laptop and classroom support services are provided by UM's Information Technology Services (ITS) through a service called MiWorkspace. The MiWorkspace team will work with you to get you set up with your first computer and on routine replacements in the future. You can request assistance with these issues through the "General Computing" link on UMSI help portal (https://help.si.umich.edu), by calling 764-HELP or through real time chat at https://chatsupport.it.umich.edu.
Research Computing
UMSI Computing assists faculty with research computing. Let us know via the help portal what you're working on or have in mind (computing resources, software, etc.) , and we'll help make it happen.
Policies
Working with Sensitive Data
We often get questions about how to appropriately handle certain types of data, or under what conditions certain tools can be used. Our partners at UM's Information Assurance group have compiled a Safe Computing Guide, providing background and guidance on working with sensitive data, such as student information. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask, but this guide is often a helpful first step.
Responsible use of information resources
U-M information technology resources are primarily provided for university-related purposes and should be used in a manner consistent with the university’s academic, teaching, learning, research, clinical, campus life, public service, and administrative missions. The continuing ability to use these resources is contingent upon their appropriate and responsible use. Members of the university community are expected to be good stewards of the university’s information resources and data, and use them in a safe, responsible, ethical, and legal manner. See Standard Practice Guide 601.07 - Responsible use of information resources for the U-M official policy.
