Third Year Reviews

Third-Year Review

Overview

Assistant Professors, Research Assistant Professors, Clinical Assistant Professors and Associate Professors without tenure are all subject to third year reviews.

The third year review is typically conducted in the winter term of the candidate’s third year (the date each year will be specified by the Associate Dean for Faculty (ADF)). At this time, the University of Michigan School of Information Human Resources (UMSI HR) office will ask the candidate to provide documentation as per the processes contained herein. All materials are submitted electronically to the UMSI HR office, and then disseminated to the subcommittee electronically.

The School of Information’s Promotion and Tenure (P&T) Committee is comprised of all tenured associate and full professors including the Dean (ex officio) and Associate Deans.  For each candidate, a third year review subcommittee of the P&T Committee is appointed by the elected Dean’s Advisory Committee (DAC). The ADF charges the subcommittee and provides expectations for the content and format of the report. The subcommittee completes their evaluation information and submits it to the UMSI HR office and ADF.

The members of the subcommittee are made known to the candidate. The reviewee can solicit feedback from the subcommittee on materials to be submitted for review or address any questions or concerns should be directed to the ADF.
