Prohibitions Regarding Sexual, Romantic, Amorous, and/or Dating Relationships Between Teachers and Learners

The establishment of sexual, romantic, amorous, and/or dating relationships between teachers and learners is prohibited at the University of Michigan. This applies to faculty in all ranks as well as GSIs and IAs.

In February 2019, Standard Practice Guide 601.22 was revised to clarify this restriction. In addition, the Frequently Asked Questions provide additional guidance.

This revision was the result of a report by a working group consisting of senior faculty in the University. Their SPG 601.22 - Working Group - Final Recommendations provides additional information.
