Regular Staff Employees
If you need a new staff position or need to replace a staff member who is leaving UMSI, you will need to complete this form to start this process. Periodically faculty may have the funding for a regular staff member, typically related to a research project. Regular staff positions that are 50% (20 hours per week or more) or higher are required to be posted on the U-M Careers site, and you must work with UMSI HR before circulating any other regular staff job advertisements. Effective February 26, 2025, the hiring of faculty, regular staff, non-student temporary staff, and contract staff on the Ann Arbor campus must be approved by the president or an executive vice president before the job is posted.

Creation & design of the job description and posting, including job responsibilities and qualifications
Your hiring timeline, including outreach, interviewing, and onboarding
The funding source for your regular staff member, and the duration of the appointment
Information and procedure review of your supervisory responsibilities of a regular staff member
UMSI and University policies related to hiring and managing regular staff
